How does it work?

1

Step 1

Paste the URL

Enter any article URL, webpage, or doi.org link. CiteMe extracts the author, title, site name, and publish date automatically.

2

Step 2

Verify the metadata

CiteMe shows what it found. Confirm the title and author before exporting. For doi.org links, full journal metadata is retrieved from CrossRef.

3

Step 3

Copy your BibTeX entry

Get a @misc or @article BibTeX entry with author, title, howpublished (URL), note (access date), and year fields.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cite a website in BibTeX?
Paste the URL into CiteMe. The tool extracts the page title, author, site name, and publication date. It generates a @misc BibTeX entry with howpublished = {\url{...}} and note = {Accessed: date}. For doi.org links, it generates a full @article entry instead.
What fields does the BibTeX entry include?
For webpages: author (if found), title, howpublished (URL), note (access date), and year. For doi.org links: full journal metadata including author, title, journal, volume, pages, year, and doi.
Does it work with paywalled articles?
Yes — CiteMe uses the DOI or article URL to retrieve metadata from CrossRef and OpenAlex, not the full text. Even if the article is behind a paywall, the citation metadata is usually available.
