How it works

1

Step 1

Paste your BibTeX

Copy one or more BibTeX entries from your .bib file, Zotero, Mendeley, Google Scholar, or Overleaf. Paste them into CiteMe.

2

Step 2

Convert to RIS

CiteMe parses each @article, @book, @inproceedings entry and maps the fields to the corresponding RIS tags (TY, AU, TI, JO, etc.).

3

Step 3

Download or import

Copy the RIS output or download it as a .ris file. Import directly into EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, RefWorks, or Citavi.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between BibTeX and RIS?
BibTeX uses curly-brace syntax (@article{key, author={Smith, J.}}) and is standard in LaTeX workflows. RIS uses tagged lines (TY - JOUR, AU - Smith, J.) and is the standard import format for EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, and RefWorks. They store the same citation metadata but in different structures.
Why would I need to convert BibTeX to RIS?
Common reasons: moving references from a LaTeX project into EndNote or Mendeley, sharing references with collaborators who do not use LaTeX, or importing Google Scholar BibTeX exports into reference managers that prefer RIS format.
Which BibTeX entry types are supported?
All standard types: @article, @book, @inproceedings, @incollection, @phdthesis, @mastersthesis, @techreport, @misc, and more. Each type is mapped to the corresponding RIS type (JOUR, BOOK, CPAPER, CHAP, THES, RPRT, GEN).
Can I convert multiple entries at once?
Yes. Paste your entire .bib file content with multiple entries. Each entry is parsed and converted individually to RIS format.
How do I import the RIS file into my reference manager?
EndNote: File > Import > select .ris file with RIS filter. Mendeley: File > Import > RIS (.ris). Zotero: File > Import > select .ris file. RefWorks: Import references from .ris file.
