Frequently Asked Questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?▼
No. The PDF file stays in your browser. CiteMe extracts the reference section locally, then sends only the extracted reference text to our API so it can verify matches against academic databases.
How does it find the references?▼
CiteMe scans your PDF for a "References" or "Bibliography" section header, then extracts text from that point to the end. If no header is found, it falls back to the last pages of the PDF. It works with English, Spanish, and Portuguese papers.
What happens after extraction?▼
You are taken to CiteMe's Reference Checker, where the extracted references are matched against academic databases and shown in a verification report.
Can I export the verified references?▼
Yes. After reviewing the matches, you can sign in, save verified references to your CiteMe library, and export them from the library workflow.
